When Is the Best Time to Buy a New HVAC System in Boise?
March 22, 2019
We’ll let you in on an industry secret: The best time to buy a new HVAC system it is in the spring (April–May) or fall (September–October).
During the spring and fall demand is down, which gives you 2 advantages:
- Moderately lower prices
- Flexible scheduling
Let’s go into more detail about both of those points.

Advantage #1: Moderately lower prices
During the HVAC “off seasons,” you have a better chance at getting a lower price for your system installation.
Sometimes contractors will run specials on new systems during the off season, when overall demand is down.
Additionally, when demand is down, you’ll have a little more leverage to negotiate a slightly lower price on a new system.
Advantage #2: Flexible scheduling
The other advantage of purchasing a new system in the offseason is that you’ll have more control over scheduling.
Since contractors aren’t as busy with installations during these times of the year, you can choose an install time that works for you.
On the other hand, if you wait until summer or winter to get your new HVAC system, the contractor will be busier, which means you’ll have to work around their schedule.
How to tell if you need a new HVAC system
You might be wondering if you really need a new HVAC system.
Below are some telltale signs that it is time to replace your system:
- Your HVAC system is 15+ years old
- Your system needs frequent repairs
- You’ve noticed higher energy bills than normal
- You have noticed hot/cold spots in your home
- You hear loud noises coming from your HVAC system
Note: It’s usually best to replace your heating and cooling system at the same time. For example, if you know you need a new AC, it’s best to get a new furnace with it (you’ll save on installation costs getting them installed together).
